Why You Should Avoid Big Box Stores When Replacing Your Doors

Replacing your exterior doors can be a great way to freshen up your Burlington home’s appearance, beef up your security or even save money on utilities. Heading down to the nearest big box home improvement store can seem like an easy solution.

But buying from a big box store is rarely the best solution. There are a number of things that you could be missing out on.

Lack of Quality with Generic Doors

The low prices on doors that you’ll often find at a big box store are tempting. But there is a reason why these prices are so low. And that reason is usually lack of quality. These doors simply aren’t built to last. Yes, you may save some money initially, but over time you’ll still spend it because you’ll likely have to come back over and over. When you buy from a company such as Doorway Inc. you will be spending more money but you will be receiving a higher quality door. Quality is key when buying a door system as it is the security of your home. Doorway builds their doors here at the shop – each door system is built with solid composite jambs. A solid frame may be more expensive than an average door at a big box store but it is worth every penny.  A composite solid frame will not warp or rot and should stay in perfect condition for years.

Lack of Expertise with Hardware Store Doors

Big box stores sell a lot of different items, and while sales staff may know a little about each item, they rarely have true expertise in any one product. Companies dedicated to selling only doors have staff that have extensive knowledge in doors – because that’s all they sell. This makes them the best suited to answer your questions and make recommendations.

No Customization

When you shop for exterior doors at big home improvement stores, what you see is what you get. There is little to no opportunity for customization. But when you order from door companies such as Doorway Inc., you can make special requests to help your door perfectly suit your Burlington home. Doorway Inc. provides several custom options such as a custom arched door system or custom sidelites that not every door supplier can offer. Doorway paints and stains the doors in their shop so custom colours are available to match the style you are looking for. We can help you with your special requests.

Door Installation is a Separate Service

When you buy a door from a big box store, the price tag is for the cost of the door only. If you want someone to come and install it for you, that is going to cost you extra. It is best to have a professional install your door as they have the experience to complete your install perfectly. With companies such as Doorway Inc., professional installation service is just part of the value we provide to our customers. You can relax knowing that you will get a professional installation every time.

Little or No Warranty on Doors

The doors that you buy at a big box store don’t usually come with much of a warranty. But at Doorway Inc., our products come with excellent warranties. For all our doors, the warranty is about 15 years to protect against delaminating and warping. The glass itself has a 10 year warranty on seal failure and we have a 10 year warranty on the mechanism of your door hardware and a 5 year warranty on the finish of your handle.  We also offer a 2 year workmanship warranty for installation, so any adjustments that need to be made during that time will be at no charge. We also stand up to our products past our warranty so if you have any small adjustments prior to the 2 year installation warranty we will service your door at a small fee.
